Grain-Finished versus Grass-Finished Beef

Grain-fed

  • Grain-fed cattle start their lives on pasture, but are later confined to feedlots to finish out on grain.

  • In the feedlot, cattle are primarily fed processed grains like corn, soy, and distiller’s grains, which are a byproduct of ethanol production.

  • Because of the grain-based diet and life in the feedlot, the meat is higher in fat (the bad kind of fat) and lower in key nutrients found in grass.

  • These cattle are routinely given antibiotics to prevent the spread of disease in feedlots.

Grass-fed

  • Our cattle that are 100% grass-fed enjoy free range on grassy pastures throughout their entire life. They are never put in factory farms or feedlots.

  • Our cattle eat their natural diet of grass, including our ranch-harvested hay during the winter months.

  • Because our cattle only eat grass their entire lives and get plenty of exercise, the meat has less of the bad fat, more of the good fat, and lots of great vitamins and minerals.

  • Our cattle are never given growth hormones or routine antibiotics. We only give life-saving antibiotics when necessary.

Our Beef..

Our beef is 100% grass-fed AND finished. This means they spend their lives grazing out on pasture and are fed grass through winter, until finished out. Don’t be fooled by sneaky marketing using “grass-fed and grain-finished”, which is actually just tricky lingo to describe the traditional practice of grain-finishing their beef—something you don't want.
